The campaign “Protect the family from violence” that was conducted by Promo-LEX Association in partnership with the General Police Inspectorate is coming to an end. On this occasion, a pop and symphonic music concert will be staged in the square of the Metropolitan Cathedral on June 24, with support from the Chisinau Culture Division. The organizers aim to combat domestic violence through the arts, IPN reports.

Daniela Buzatu, the representative of the General Police Inspectorate, told a news conference that the campaign was launched on May 19. Specialists travelled to villages and towns in ten districts where they promoted measures to protect against violence and free services for victims of violence and told about the legal provisions that refer to this phenomenon. Stereotypes persist in society and these give an impetus to the activities aimed at combating domestic violence.

Culture Division head Lucia Culev said the June 24 event will conclude the campaign “Protect the family from violence” and will give the start to a new campaign to combat violence through the arts by which the Division, together with national artists, aim to cover the whole country.

The first part of the June 24 concert will involve folk music singers and bands, such as the Osoianu Sisters, “Edera” and “Plaiesii”. Later, soloists of the National Opera House “Maria Biesu”, including Mariana Bulicanu, Ghiulinara Raileanu and Tatiana Varlan, will sing music by Johann Sebastian Bach, Eugen Doga, Constantin Rusnac and Anatol Chiriac. The concert starts at 6pm.

Lilia Potang, jurist of Promo-LEX Association, said more such campaigns will be staged because the victims of violence continue to live in silence and to hide the acts of violence to which they are subject. These cases often become fatal. A number of 64 persons died as a result of acts of domestic violence last year alone. By these campaigns, the victims and witnesses of violence are urged to report the cases to the police.
