An integrated information system, with a data base on violence cases identified in entire Moldova, will start to work soon. The project was launched on Tuesday at a news conference held by the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) in cooperation with the Ministry for Social Protection, Family and Children, the Agency for International Assistance of the Romanian Government for Moldova and the civil society, Info-Prim Neo reports. Lilia Pascal, an official of the Ministry, has said the integrated system is extremely necessary for Moldova, on reason there is no data base as to the cases of domestic violence. “Up to now only the Ministry of Domestic Affairs used keep the record of these cases. The question is murders and life-threating woulds. Or, we need detailed information about any kind of domestic violence,” Lilia Pascal said. He suggests this issue should be viewed not as a private problem, but as a social phenomenon. “There are different types of domestic violence as economic violence, psychological violence, spiritual violence etc. These need to be reported, recorded and monitored to solve the critical situation concerning the human security, counteracting and preventing violence,” Lilia Pascal says. She explains the system till ease identifying violence cases, processing data, as the functionaries will have an ampler reference system. Social assistants and police will have the possibility to intervene in any family confronted with such a situation. Boris Galca, the chief of the UNFPA office in Moldova, says they will test a number of technical tools within the project as special software to keep the track of violence cases. According to him, all the data concerning the people affected by violence will be kept secret. The president of the NGO “Gender-Center”, Valentina Bodrug-Lungu, suggests to set up a ministerial group to apply the project. Initially the project will be implemented in two districts: Drochia and Cahul. This is the first project supported by the Agency for International Assistance of the Romanian Government for Moldova. The allocated amount is $120,000. Present at the event, Romanian ambassador to Moldova, Filip Teodorescu, has said, after Romania joined the EU, it also joined the club of donor countries supporting states in need. Romania allocated 4.6 million lei for 2007-2009for partners as Moldova, Georgia and Serbia. “We must mention over 60% of this amount-- 2.9 million lei – are destined to Moldova,” the ambassador said. In the future, UNFPA plans to implement a project to improve the social and economic situation of the Roma community from Moldovan, as $40,000 are earmarked in this respect.
