Igor Dodon, the leader of the Socialist Party, and Vladimir Turcan, the president of the United Moldova Party announced at a press conference on Tuesday their intention to consolidate their parties and strengthen the leftist parties' positions in general, Info-Prim Neo reports. Vladimir Turcan stated that Moldova is now at a crossroads and those who came into power in 2009 have demonstrated that they are no better than their predecessors. “Apart from promises, unfortunately nothing has changed for the better. Only corruption has grown in our society. Economic degradation is dragging on. Unfortunately the political left is too fragmented, this is why we've come to the conclusion that we need to move on from statements and embark on the path of a true consolidation”, stated Turcan. Socialist leader Igor Dodon said this consolidation will demonstrate the political maturity of his party. Dodon revealed the Socialists' ranks will soon be joined by a number of well-known politicians as well as less known yet good specialists. Dodon refrained from telling what concrete steps the consolidation would involve, saying that the future steps will be announced as they occur.
