“I think you, all of us, should be thankful we have this Government, and not the Government of Maia Sandu,” Igor Dodon addressed drought-hit farmers during the latest installment of his “President Q&A” vlog.

“Last year, when farmers were affected by hail, the Government at the time showed no concern for them. But now these politicians use farmers to destabilize the situation,” said Dodon, adding that in case of a political crisis, farmers could lose the money promised now by the Government.

The President says that the State Budget cannot afford compensations of 3,000 lei per hectare as requested by farmers, who should be thankful for the 1,500 lei as promised. According to Dodon, the politicians who promise more and encourage them to take to the street should explain that any increments would be at the expense of pensions, salaries, road repairs and so on.

According to him, “some farmers who seek the resignation of the Government may not understand the full consequences of it, but those who exploit them, they want a political crisis.”

“Blocking streets would mean destabilization and also mean obstructing the work of other businesses. This means in turn that there will be less budget revenue and consequently less money to give you in subsidies”, Dodon told farmers.
