President Igor Dodon says it’s important that the electoral battle in Chisinau doesn’t lead to the dissolution of the Socialist-ACUM coalition and the collapse of the Government, and he believes his duty is to do everything to minimize such risks.
So far, however, the president sees no serious conflicts in the capital or anywhere else across Moldova. “In villages, at the level of mayoral and council elections, there shouldn’t be any major hostilities between the component parties of the current coalition. The same is true at the level of districts and cities. I don’t see any major risks. It’s important that after these elections the parties forming the coalition should continue to get along and create similar conditions for coalitions at the local level,” said Igor Dodon.
In Chisinau, the president thinks the situation could get “very interesting” and we could see a winner already in the first round. “I really hope they don’t start talking geopolitics again, the tanks are coming nonsense and so on. I’ve seen a lot of statements lately, they are trying to embroil me in this. A lot of contenders will criticize me and will try to drag me into electoral polemics.”
On a different subject, Dodon said that after the elections, the Government, Parliament and the President’s Office should put forward 4-5 proposals to support vulnerable families during the heating season, fund road repairs, and increase salaries. “If we fail to do this, people’s confidence in the Government will drop. If this happens, we will have no other choice but to criticize this Government.”
