After visiting the Bulboaca training area on Monday, President Igor Dodon told a press briefing he didn’t find anything suspicious that would support concerns of potential destabilization in the so-called Security Zone or of foreign military intervention, IPN reports.

The president went on to add that he intended in the following weeks to inspect all the military facilities across the country, and to convene the Security Council later this month to get better informed and give orders as necessary.

“Today, as commander-in-chief, I visited the Bulboaca training area to see the situation myself on the ground. I’ve found that activities at the range are going according to plan, that some lodging and supporting buildings are being repaired and renovated, and that road infrastructure is getting a rehabilitation as well”, said Igor Dodon.

The president stated he reminded officers that Moldova “is a neutral state and I shall not allow Moldovan soldiers to take part or be used as parts in the machinery of some military bloc, be it from the West or from the East”, adding:

“And if the Government and the parliamentary majority, influenced from abroad, ever try to get Moldova involved in a regional military conflict as part of the geopolitical struggle going on in the region, I’m going to have to act firmly to protect peace and national security. As president of the Republic of Moldova, together with the people, we will have just reason to take this government down by any means possible, including by calling a Great National Assembly and staging nonstop protests”.

Commenting on the military drills held east of the Nistru and involving Russian troops, Igor Dodon said he had insufficient information to be able to give an answer, but promised to discuss the issue, among other subjects, when he meets with Transnistria’s de facto leader Vadim Krasnoselski in a few weeks.

Igor Dodon also announced that he would meet with the Russian president Vladimir Putin at a Commonwealth of Independent States session in October in a bid to avert any potential punishment from Russia “following the actions by the government in Chisinau”.
