Representatives of the diplomatic corps, public institutions and of the Jewish community took part in the opening of an exhibition entitled “Righteous between peoples” at the National Museum of Arts of Moldova. The event was organized in connection with the holding by Romania of the presidency of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), IPN reports.

Romania’s Ambassador to Moldova Daniel Ionita said it is important to assume responsibility for the past and it is our duty to educate the next generations in the spirit of tolerance and coexistence so that such tragedies do not repeat. “It is also important for the young people to understand history and the meaning of assuming it and to have courage to take attitude every time they witness actions of a racist, xenophobe, discriminatory and anti-Semitic character,” stated the diplomat.

The remembrance of the Holocaust is one of the action lines of the IHRA whose presidency has been held by Romania since March 2016. One of its objectives is to consolidate education on the Holocaust in the member states and observer states such as Moldova and to promote the academic research of the Holocaust.

The documentary photo exhibition “Righteous between peoples” can be visited at the National Museum of Arts of Moldova until March 5.
