The doctors who are trained in Moldova have insufficient knowledge of psychological counseling and medical legislation, university professor Rodica Grama stated in the program “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1 in the context of the petition addressed to the Government by a group of women who suffered as a result of the interaction with the prenatal sector of the medical system, IPN reports.
“I think a doctor should know very well the law so that they understand very well their obligations and what the patient’s rights are. The medical assistants should also know their obligations,” stated Rodica Grama.
Alina Andronache, of the initiative group that submitted a petition about the attitude of doctors in maternity hospitals to the authorities, said that by filing this petition they aimed to obtain not the firing of all the doctors involved, but the improvement of the situation in the medical system. “To improve the situation in the Republic of Moldova, society and the authorities should work together because we will be able to change things only when we hear each other,” stated Alina Andronache.
Secretary general of state at the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection Boris Gilca said he regrets that some of the women who related their unpleasant experiences when giving birth didn’t make public the names of the doctors who served them and didn’t reveal their own identity.
According to Boris Gilca, a working group was set up following an internal inquiry and a plan of action is worked out. This will cover not only the maternity hospitals, but all the public medical-sanitary institutions of the country. “These measures will be announced soon and you will see that they will be even monitored so that they are implemented,” stated the secretary general. He noted that the ethics councils that worked in each medical institution of Moldova will be reactivated and each section will have by a register of complaints accessible to patients. Also, self-assessment questionnaires will be performed and the performance criteria based on which the medical personnel are remunerated will be reviewed.
On January 9, a group of women who suffered after they interacted with the prenatal sector filed a petition to the Government, calling on the senior officials, in particular Prime Minister Pavel Filip, to order a broad inspection in the national medical system.
