Four doctors of the Radiology and Imagistics Section of the Mother and Child Institute, including the section head, are suspected of implementing an illegal scheme to collect money from patients. According to the National Anticorruption Center, the money was asked from persons who were examined without being preliminarily included in a list, IPN reports.

There were identified tens of cases when patents paid money this way. The employees transmitted the collected amounts to the their superior, while this to the section head.

The section has three X-ray machines and a Tomographer and a scan at these was performed for 200 to 500 lei per patient. Up to 40 children were examined daily.

The section head and a radiologist were arrested for 72 hours. Another two resident doctors were escorted to the National Anticorruption Center for questioning. The investigation continues and more offenses could be yet identified. It is thus not clear what penalty the doctors face for their actions.
