Doctors in Chisinau earned 1,018 lei per month on average in late 2005

The medium monthly salary of a doctor in Chisinau accounted for 1,018 lei in late 2005. The monthly average salary of a family doctor was 1,216 lei, while nurses of family doctors earned 891 lei. The chief of the municipal health directorate, Victor Savin, has stated to Info-Prim Neo that the average monthly salary rose from 884 lei in 2004 up to 1,018 lei in late 2005 at the municipal level. It rose by 15 percent. At the same time, the average monthly salary doctors working in ambulatories earned 1,095 lei, while doctors and nurses working in hospitals earned 1,618 lei and, respectively, 1,064 lei on average. The highest average slary was registered in the phtisio-pneumologic dispensary – 1,644 lei and dermo-venerological dispensary – 1,656 lei. Many doctors left the medical institutions and requalified or left for abroad because of low salaries. Thus, 986 doctors left the health institutoons in the past 4 years, but only 660 doctors got employed, 2,890 nurses tendered resignation and only 2,112 were hired. Therefore, the difference between doctors who tendered resignation and got employed in the past five years is on the rise and it counts for 326 persons, and 778 persons for nurses. Primary health institutions are ensured such specialists only 72.7 percent. According to data of the World Health Organisation, the health system works due to enthusiasm of doctors in countries where the amount allocated for health-related needs of a person is lower than 70 dollars a year. This amount in Moldova is 40.75 dollars.
