A section head and a doctor of the Municipal Clinical Hospital “Saint Trinity” were arrested for 72 hours on suspicion of passive corruption. Almost half a million lei was seized during searches, IPN reports, quoting the National Anticorruption Center.
The arrested doctors and colleagues of theirs are suspected of asking for sums of up to 7,000 lei from patients who needed surgery, including medically insured ones. The collected amounts weren’t indicated in the institution’s bookkeeping records.
As a result of searches, anticorruption officers found over 155,000 lei, 2,000 Russian rubles, over £8,000 and US$ 3,000 at the homes and offices of the doctors. These face a maximum of ten years in jail for passive corruption.
