The doctor who breached the secrecy of the ballot in the October 20 election at a nursing home in Comrat was detained and risks up to five years in prison. The criminal case was initiated based on a complaint filed by the Promo-LEX Association, which reported the breach of secrecy of the voting in the case of 25 electors. The General Police Inspectorate said that the doctor allegedly obtained money from the Shor criminal organization through the PSB-Promsvyazbank system, IPN reports.

According to the Inspectorate, the criminal case was started for falsifying the election results by any means. "Police officers from the ATU Gagauzia Police Division, together with prosecutors from the region, carried out searches in Comrat, detaining the doctor who helped the elderly people to vote," reads a press release.

The detained person actively contributed to the falsification of ballots by voting in place of other people and abused his position to influence the results of the presidential election and the referendum.

"During the conducted searches, there was seized conclusive evidence of his corruptible actions, including transfers obtained by the doctor through the PSB - Promsvyazbank system from the Shor criminal organization in order to commit violations in the electoral process, using the administrative post,” said the GPIs.

The immovable property owned by the detained person is to be seized to establish its origin. In the absence of financial justification, it will be decided to confiscate the property and financial means held by the perpetrator.
