The head of the Ungheni Emergency Admissions Unit was given a three-year suspended sentence for breaking the rules of providing medical assistance, IPN reports.

According to prosecutors, in November 2018, the head of the Ungheni Emergency Admissions Unit, being on guard, didn’t appropriately assess the severity of the clinical state of a man who came to the medical institution. The doctor didn’t make a full clinical diagnosis and didn’t compile a plan for examining and treating the man and placed him in the Psycho-Narcology Section where his changing state wasn’t monitored. The man died in several hours as a result of cardiac arrest caused by (toxic) cardiomyopathy following the advanced state of inebriation.

The culprit pleaded not guilty. The court also obliged him to pay 346,800 lei in respect of pecuniary and non-pecuniary damage and court costs.
