The head of the perinatology obstetrics division of the Soroca District Hospital was arrested by anticorruption officers for asking for and taking 3,500 lei from a patient for a Cesarean and for providing postnatal medical assistance, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the National Anticorruption Center.
The doctor was arrested immediately after he received the money. He faces up to 10 years in jail for passive corruption. He was taken to a remand center and will be held there for 72 hours.
This year so far, the National Anticorruption Center dealt with 10 cases of corruption in the health sector.
