Before being distributed, the user describes the covered event, answering the questions: Who?, What?, Where?, When? and Why? The user assumes responsibility for what he publishes.
Moldova.ORG journalist Ana Gherciu, one of the initiators of the application, said the pursued goal is to develop civic journalism, which started to take shape. The people want to make themselves heard and what they say should reach as many people as possible.
DIY News was created as a result of a Hackathon Media staged by the Independent Journalism Center and the German Academy Deutsche Welle. The application, which was developed during over half a year, is available to any user of Android or iPhone from AppStore and Google Play Store.
