The head of the Investigations Division of the Ialoveni Police Inspectorate and a businessman from the town were arrested on influence peddling charges. They are suspected of trying to hush up a criminal case in exchange for €5,000, IPN reports.
According to the investigators, the businessman was robbed of goods estimated at about €10,000. He complained to the Ialoveni Police Inspectorate and a criminal case was started there over theft. The culprit was later identified and the businessman reached an agreement with this, being paid damages by the offender. As the criminal case was ongoing, the businessman promised to persuade the investigating officer to drop this for a reward of €5,000.
The police officer and the businessman were arrested for 72 years on accusations of influence peddling.
