The district authorities are urged to take part in a contest for integrating the children with disabilities into general schools. The Government of Japan provided a grant of US$2.86 million for the inclusion of children, through the Policy and Human Resources Development Policy Fund, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family.

The project has two main components: district panning and implementation of demonstrative pilot subprojects. Within the first component, there will be constituted a supervision council that will consist of members of the ministries of education and labor, and of UNICEF-Moldova and the NGO sector. As a result of a national contest that will involve all the districts, at the first stage the council will select 24 potential beneficiaries of investments. At the next stage, the district public authorities will work out plans for supporting the program for developing inclusive education for 2011-2020, which was approved by the Government. Emphasis will be put on the allocation of the necessary financial resources for supporting teachers and specialists in special education.

The second component will start with the selection of 20 district community schools for implementing pilot subprojects. The settlements will be chosen at a contest that will involve the 24 districts selected earlier.

There will be financed activities aimed at modifying and modernizing the school facilities for integrating the disabled children, facilitating learning for these children and training parents.
