A distinct electoral council based in Chisinau was created to organdie the electoral process at polling stations that will be established abroad. Until 2019, this was the duty of Chisinau District Electoral Council No. 1, Central Election Commission president Dorin Cimil told a news conference, being quoted by IPN.

For the polling stations abroad, there was constituted electoral district No.38. Until June 5, the CEC will decide the organization and establishment of polling stations abroad in accordance with the criteria stipulated by the Election Code.

In the presidential runoff of November 2020, the voter turnout at the polling stations abroad was of over 263,000 Moldovans.

The electoral legislation stipulates a number of criteria for establishing polling places outside the country. In the case of parliamentary elections, one or several additional polling places are set up alongside the polling places housed by diplomatic missions and consular offices of the Republic of Moldova. The constitution of polling places is decided by the CEC with the consent of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, according to three criteria: number of voters who took part in the previous elections in the national constituency, number of pre-registered voters and based on information obtained by the Ministry from the responsible authorities of the countries of residence of Moldovans, concerning their number of and place of stay.

The deadline for pre-registration is May 26. Pre-registration online is possible through alegator.md, while on paper by submitting an application signed individually or collectively to the CEC or Moldova’s embassies and consular offices. So far, 93,000 persons have pre-registered.
