Diseases of circulatory apparatus caused most of victims in 2007

Most of the deaths last year were causes by diseases of the circulatory apparatus, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the National Bureau of Statistics. According to the cited source, 56.2% of the deaths in 2007 were caused by diseases of the circulatory apparatus, 12.7% by tumors, 9.9% by diseases of the digestive apparatus, 8.5% by accidents, poisonings and traumas and 6.0% by diseases of the respiratory apparatus. The death rate among men differs from that among women by causes. The number of deaths among men owing to accidents, poisonings and traumas was 3.1 times larger than among women, due to diseases of the respiratory apparatus - 1.8 times higher and to tumors – 1.2 times higher. The number of deaths among women caused by diseases of the circulatory apparatus was 1.2 times higher. The largest number of deaths was recorded in Moldova’s district centers and in rural areas. The general mortality by causes of death differs significantly according to regions. Most of the deaths in Donduseni, Edinet, Floresti and Briceni districts were caused by diseases of the circulatory apparatus, in Drochia, Edinet and Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia – by different tumors, while in Calarasi, Orhei, Dubasari and Soldanesti – by diseases of the digestive apparatus. The highest rate of deaths caused by external factors was recorded in the districts of Basarabeasca and Calarasi, where the accidents, poisonings and traumas take the leading position in the list of death causes. A number of 43,000 people died in 2007. This is by 87 persons fewer than in 2006.
