Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Eugen Carpov hopes that a decision as regards the resumption of the official talks in the 5+2 format will be taken in the informal negotiations that will be held early in April. This will enable to open the discussions on the status of the Transnistrian region as a component part of Moldova in June, the official said in the European Union – Moldova Forum on March 30, Info-Prim Neo reports. Cristian Diaconescu, deputy chairman of the Romanian Senate, believes that there are important preconditions for settling the Transnistrian conflict, but one of the main conditions is for Russia to withdraw its troops and munitions from Moldova’s territory. Slawomir Pichor, deputy head of the EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM), said that Moldova’s economic development will be like a catalyst for resolving the Transnistrian dispute. Political analyst Oazu Nantoi said the Transnistrian dispute is a conflict between the project to build the state Moldova and Russia’s ‘imperial’ projects. The European Union – Moldova Forum is taking place in Chisinau during March 29-31. The event is organized by the Foreign Policy Association and the Institute for Eastern Studies of Warsaw.
