On the Subscriber’s Day that this year is celebrated on November 20, the national periodicals offer discounts of 5-25% of the cost of subscription, while Moldova’s Post Office gives a 10% discount on postal delivery prices, IPN reports.

In the opening of the Subscriber’s Day, Moldova’s Post Office director general Serghei Nastas said it is the 11th year since Moldova’s Post Office, in concert with the national press editors, started to take steps to convince the people to subscribe to national and international periodicals.

Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technology Vitalie Ciolacu said that Moldova’s Post Office is the most appropriate institution for organizing the Subscriber’s Day. The goal of the event is to stimulate the subscription to and sale of print media.

Felicia Lukianenko, manager for promotion of the newspaper “Ziarul de Garda”, said the largest part of the people attending the event put questions about the newspaper and some of them subscribed. An annual subscription costs 140 lei.

Secretary of the magazine for children and teens “Noi” Liliana Bunu said the magazine is known better in villages, where there is the highest number of subscribers. More parents and grandparents rather than young people enquired about the magazine during the first hours of the opening of the event. Compared with last year, the price of the magazine is by 2 lei higher - 15 lei, as against 13 lei earlier, while the annual subscription costs 180 lei.

Pensioner Vasile Potoroaca said that he has permanently subscribed to a number of papers for 20 years. Today he subscribed to three of them, while the others he will read online. There are many publications in Moldova, but only a small part of them tell the truth, he stated.

Pensioner Tudor Marinciuc complained that the prices are too high. He voiced hope that the editorial offices, during the next Subscriber’s Days, will take into account the fact that the incomes and payment capacity of the readers are different and will have special offers for socially deprived people.

There are 1,148 post offices on Moldova’s territory.
