Discharge of Moldovan rivers will drop because of heat wave

The hot weather and the lack of precipitations will lead to a significant decrease in the discharge of the Nistru River and smaller rivers in Moldova from May 28 to June 4. The meteorologists launched a hydrological warning on this occasion. According to the head of Hydrology department of the “Hidrometeo” State Service, Ludmila Serenco, the rate of river discharge will drop to 20-50% of the average values during this period. Experts announce that on May 23-27, there were registered record high temperatures for this period, during the entire observation period started in 1886. On these days there were registered 31.5ºС in Briceni, 35.5 ºС – in Rabnita and Bravicea and 36.4 ºС – in Dubasari and Tiraspol. Meteorologists forecast for the next days unstable hot weather, with showers, lightning and even hail storms. According to multiyear data, the minimal temperature registered on May 28 was +6.4 ºС in 1977.
