Dirk Schuebel was near Moldova during the most important years of changes and modernization and took part in the political and social life of the country not only as an observer, but also as a participant ready to help the country to develop multilaterally, Prime Minister Iurie Leanca said in the last participation by Dirk Schuebel in a public event as EU Ambassador in Chisinau.

“He has been near us during four tumultuous years. For his work, he was appreciated not only by us, but also by his chiefs in Brussels, being promoted to a very important post. Now he will be responsible not only for Moldova, but also for the other EaP member states,” said Iurie Leanca.

For his part, Dirk Schuebel said the EU was always ready to contribute to the multilateral development of Moldova. He added that in this period the European Union provided about €43 million in support to Moldova. Another €3 million was offered in the form of technical assistance.

The tenure of Dirk Schuebel ends on August 31. He started work in Moldova in November 2009. This month, he has been awarded the Order of Honor by President Nicolae Timofti.

Dirk Schuebel will be replaced by Pirkka Tapiola, who takes up his duties in September.
