“I have always been wary of all kinds of surveys conducted in Moldova,” the Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Dirk Schuebel said, commenting on the Public Opinion Barometer’s results concerning the people’s wish to join the EU. According to the official, the poll results should not be taken very serious or as pure truth, especially after the survey of November 2010, Info-Prim Neo reports. Dirk Schuebel said that when he goes to Moldova’s settlements he does not get the impression that the Moldovans want less now to join the EU or that the European Union became less attractive. He stated that the people want to see a change, but the changes do not occur overnight. “The people are impatient to see progress. They should be more patient. I’m sure that Moldova follows the correct path,” said the Ambassador. Dirk Schuebel also said that there are people who do not know what the Agreement on the Creation of a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area between Moldova and the EU is or what other benefits Moldova will enjoy. According to the poll, if a referendum on joining the EU was held next Sunday, 53% of those sampled would vote in favor, 30% would vote against, while 4% would not take part. If a referendum on joining the Eurasian Customs Union took place next Sunday, 57% of the respondents would vote for, 20% would vote against, while 4% would not participate. 14% are undecided.
