The Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Dirk Schuebel said that in order to provide a liberalized visa regime to Moldova, the European Union must be sure that the country’s borders are secure. The official told a news conference that the EU is optimistic that a solution will be found, IPN reports.
”If the European Union agrees to grant this visa-free regime, evidently we must be sure that the borders are protected as required. In the current circumstances, with the Transnistrian region, this thing is more difficult,” said the ambassador.
Dirk Schuebel also said that in order to make progress in the process of liberalizing the visa regime, Moldova needs political stability. The EU hopes that the Moldovan authorities will constitute a parliamentary majority that will cover the Government.
The Head of the EU Delegation expressed his optimism that Moldova will witness success at the Vilnius Summit of this November. Even if the Association Agreement is not signed there, it will anyway be a great success achieved by Moldova as no country managed to finish the negotiations on this agreement so quickly.
