The director of a kindergarten-school situated in Chisinau is investigated for abuse of power. This is suspected of illegally collecting money from parents. Officers of the National Anticorruption Center (NAC) and prosecutors on April 5 carried out searches in the home, the office and the personal car of the woman, IPN reports.
According to the NAC, the investigation into this case was opened following a complaint about the collection of monthly taxes from parents whose children attend the institution on the pretext of needing to perform repair works or for other necessities.
In the director’s office, there were found lists with the names of parents and the sums paid by these and also money in cash. This is a violation of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport’s order that bans the illegal collection of money in general education institutions. Almost 14,000 lei, €1,160 and US$ 350 was found at her home and seized. The origin of this money is to be established.
Some of the educators of the kindergarten-school confirmed that they collected money from parents. A part of the collected sums were used for the needs of the kindergarten, while the rest was transmitted to the director.
The woman is questioned by investigation officers.
