The Director General for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations at the European Commission Christian Danielsson said that Moldova is a priority for the European Union. He made such a statement in a meeting with Head of Parliament Andrian Candu, who is in Brussels on a working visit, IPN reports.

According to the legislature’s press office, the interlocutors discussed the implementation of the priority reform action roadmap, the legislation on integrity, the fight against corruption, the measures taken to improve the situation in the financial-banking sector, ensuring of economic stability, the forthcoming presidential elections in Moldova and the unlocking of the EU assistance for Moldova.

Andrian Candu spoke about the steps taken by the National Bank of Moldova to remedy the situation at the three banks that are under supervision, including the elaboration of new legislation concerning legal instruments for dealing with system bank crises. Referring to the implementation of the Association Agreement, the Speaker said that Parliament became much more active and involved in this process.

The EU’s development assistance for Moldova was another subject for discussion. Andrian Candu and Christian Danielsson exchanged opinions on the current relations between Moldova and the IMF, noting the technical stages that are to be covered for the EU assistance to be unblocked.

The officials also discussed the public administration reform in Moldova, especially the authorities’ view on the issue. Christian Danielsson inquired about the mechanisms and involvement of civil society in the lawmaking process.

Earlier today, Andrian Candu had a meeting with the President of the Committee on Foreign Affairs Elmar Brok, where the two conferred on the sociopolitical developments in Moldova.
