A 59-year-old direction chief of Moldovan railways was arrested by police being accused of extorting money from chiefs and train attendants in the exchange of keeping them in their jobs, Info-Prim Neo has learnt from the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The man was reported by a woman who says she had offered him a bribes of $2 thousand for employing her as a train attendant. After giving money, the young woman says she worked no more than 5 months and then she was dismissed without any reason. After a search in the suspect’s office, the police found over $201 thousand, 50 thousand euros, about 18 thousand lei, over 10 thousand rubles, two “Baikal” and “Luger” pistols and illegal ammunitions. The police supposes that all these things and sums of money come from illicit work. The investigations have found that the civil servant’s income was stable, and he has been working according to a well-planned scheme for over 15 years. Thus, he would have received at the end of any train route by about $300 from each train attendant. If he is found guilty, the suspect risks a fine from 60 to 100 thousand lei and imprisonment from 5 to 10 years, being deprived of the right to work for two or five years.
