“Dignity and Truth” reps meet with President

Representatives of the Platform “Dignity and Truth”, which organized the protests mounted in the central square of Chisinau, had a meeting with President Nicolae Timofti on September 18, IPN reports.

According to the presidential press service, the Platform’s leaders put forward a number of concrete demands to the head of state, such as to convene the Supreme Security Council and discuss the sociopolitical situation in the country, to make sure that the protesters are protected and to support the idea of election of the head of state by direct vote, within a general election.

There was reiterated the demand to dismiss a number of institution heads, including the National Bank governor, prosecutor general, director of the National Anticorruption Center and president of the Supreme Court of Justice, whom the protesters consider responsible for the banking frauds committed in Moldova.

Nicolae Timofti said that he already decided to convene the Supreme Security Council earlier and that the police will continue to take steps to make sure that the people can protest peacefully.

The President reiterated that he is concerned, as most of the people, about the problems faced in the legal system, financial-banking and agricultural sectors and will continue to take measures to remedy them, within his constitutional powers.

The participants in the meeting agreed that after the problems enumerated today are examined additionally, a new meeting with the head of state will be scheduled to continue the discussions for identifying possible solutions.
