The Independent Press Association (API) and the Anticorruption Alliance announce the launch of a new “Property in Sight” campaign during which the civil servants can fully publish their statements of income and property for 2008 in a scanned form on the API’s website, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the organizers. MPs, ministers, local councilors, civil servants and other dignitaries that consider they have nothing to hide and stick to the principle of transparency of incomes are encouraged to post their full statements of income on the API’s site www.api.md. The preliminary results of the campaign will be made public through weekly press releases and through the anticorruption supplement “Obiectiv” (“Objective”) published by the Independent Press Association and the Anticorruption Alliance. The law regarding the declaration and control of incomes and property of judges, prosecutors, civil servants and other public officials envisions the publication of only extracts from the income statements. But it does not hinder the civil servants from fully publishing their statements of income and property if they want. Under the law, the MPs, ministers, judges and other persons holding important positions must update their statements of income and property for 2008 until January 30, 2009. Twenty MPs, ministers, mayors and other officials accepted to fully publish their statements of income and property for 2007 on the API’s website as part of the “Property in Sight” campaign.
