Drivers complain about difficulties faced when they want to register their motor vehicles with Transnistrian license numbers. The reason is that a part of the documents asked by the authorities are no longer kept in archives in Transnistria. Contacted by IPN, Dorel Noroc, division head at the Ministry of Finance, which drafted the bill that sets down new customs clearance conditions for cars registered abroad, said the problem is known and they are looking for a solution. The Reintegration Office is to formulate proposals in this regard.

The Reintegration Office’s head Gheorghe Balan has told IPN that they are working on a Government decision that will stipulate a mechanism that will enable the owners to register the vehicles in the absence of documents. One of the possibilities is for the owners of vehicles with Transnistrian license numbers to sign an own responsibility statement. This bill could be examined next week.

As of April 1, 2017, the motor vehicles with Transnistrian license numbers will be unable to use public road if the drivers own Moldovan driver’s licenses and live on the right side of the Nistru. During three months, between January 1 and April 1, those entitled can pay customs duties of 30% of the quota for 2016 on these cars, regardless of their length of life.
