Representatives of parliamentary parties stated opposing opinions about the legality of the withdrawal of the parliamentary immunity of Vlad Filat and his arrest. These discussed the issue in the talk show “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.

Liberal-Democratic MP Valeriu Giletski said the procedure for annulling the immunity of Filat was violated. “There were committed a series of procedural violations. It is evident that it was political revenge. I think the lawyers will successfully use these violations to defend Filat,” he stated.

Democratic MP Sergiu Sarbu expressed a different opinion. “Nothing was violated. Parliament had no right to reject the prosecutor general’s request, especially because it is a major problem discussed by the whole society. Neither Parliament nor the political class should become involved in justice. The ruling alliance must advance the country’s pro-European course,” he said.

Socialist lawmaker Vasile Bolea denied the assertion that Filat’s arrest was planned beforehand. “The prosecutor general presented a set of documents that convinced the MPs. The procedure wasn’t broken. Vlad Filat is an MP and he has the right to go to the Constitutional Court,” he stated.

The deputy chairman of the Liberal Party Valeriu Munteanu said the party he represents sounded the alarm about the thefts committed in the banking system long ago and the Liberal MPs had no way out than to vote for the annulment of Filat’s immunity. “The agreement to form the ruling alliance provides that the stealing committed at Banca de Economii must be elucidated. It was one of the conditions imposed by us. I think Filat’s arrest is not a reason for dismembering the alliance,” he said.
