The national commission for the establishment of single-member constituencies decided that the Transnistrian region should be allotted two seats of MP based on two constituencies, while the diaspora should be entitled to three seats of MP after the 2018 parliamentary elections that will be held according to the mixed-member electoral system. The proposal of the commission that met on October 30 will be submitted to the Government for approval, IPN reports.

Thus, the districts of Dubasari, Camenca, Rabnita and Grigoriopol will form one constituency, while Slobozia district, Tiraspol town and Tighina municipality will form another constituency. Ten members of the 18 attending the meeting supported this proposal. As regards the diaspora, a constituency will be established for the areas eastward Moldova, another one for those westward Moldova, while the third for the U.S. and Canada. The proposal was accepted by 15 votes in favor.

The commission also approved the list of 46 standing single-member constituencies that embrace the territorial administrative units of the second level, including Chisinau municipality (11 constituencies), Balti municipality (two constituencies) and ATU Gagauzia (two constituencies). The list of 51 constituencies is to also be sent to the Government for approval.

The representatives of the Party of Socialists refrained, saying important arguments provided by them weren’t taken into account and the formulated opinions were abused. They also argued that those from the diaspora weren’t allotted an appropriate number of seats of MP.
