Diaspora more active than in 2020, primarily Moldovans in Italy

More than 95,000 Moldovan citizens living abroad voted at polling stations established outside the country by 02:00 p.m., according to real-time data provided by the Central Election Commission (CEC). The figure shows a higher interest in voting in the 2024 presidential election, compared to the same periods of time in the 2020 election, IPN reports.

Of all those who voted, 51.86% are women and 48.14% are men. The most active ones are voters aged 36-45, followed by those of the 26-35 age group.

In the 2020 presidential election, the number of Moldovans who voted at polling stations abroad by 01:00 p.m. was over 67,000.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the voter turnout towards 01:00 p.m. increased at a number of polling stations in Austria, Belgium, France, Italy, Spain, Romania, Greece, Russia, and Turkey. Lines of over 100 people were reported in Vienna, Brussels, and also in Brescia, Padua, Verona, Modena, Ferrara (Italy).
