Two of the victims of the explosion that occurred in a block in Râșcani district of Chisinau were citizens of Israel. These are the woman who was found dead under the debris and the man who died in the hospital in the evening of October 6. The spouses came to visit their son and see their granddaughter aged half a year, IPN reports.

According to www.vesty.co.il, which quotes the daughter of the two, her parents, both aged 77, had been together since they were 14. They were born the same month and in the same maternity hospital. They became acquainted at school and since then never separated and were happy together. Two years ago, her parents celebrated the golden wedding.

The man and the woman were in the apartment that their son rented for them. The apartment is situated in the same block where their son lives. The building has 17 floors and 500 apartments on six stairs. “As far as we know, our parents were on the 15th floor. Someone from the 16th floor illegally installed a gas cylinder on the balcony. There was a gas leakage and the explosion occurred. Three-four stories were damaged and balconies collapsed,” stated the woman.

She also said she discussed with her parents each day. These were happy as they spent time together with their granddaughter. The spouses took their dog with them and this didn’t survive either.

The Consulate of Israel in Romania and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are preparing the repatriation of the spouses to Israel.

The blast also killed a 30-year-old woman who taught Romanian at the Teacher Training University “Ion Creangă” in Chisinau and her son aged four.

Three persons affected by the blast remain hospitalized: the 33-year-old woman in whose apartment the blast occurred, a woman who suffered with different injuries and a fireman who was hurt during the rescue operation.
