In connection with the institution of the quarantine regime in the Transnistrian region owing to the COVID-19 pandemic until April 5, the free movement of a number of categories of people, except those who live on a permanent basis or who have the residence in the region, diplomats and representatives of international organizations, is temporarily restricted, by simultaneously ensuring the transportation of essential goods and food products, the Reintegration Policies Bureau responded to IPN when asked to comment on the restrictions imposed by the Transnistrian administration on the people living on the right bank of the Nistru.

“Given that there are many citizens of the Republic of Moldova who work on the right bank, such as doctors, teaching staff, farmers and others, but have the domicile in the region, and the multiple individual requests made to the Bureau and in order to facilitate the unhampered crossing of the administrative line by these, continuous interaction is maintained at the level of the key negotiators, by informing the international partners,” runs the Bureau’s comment.

The institution also said that the regimes decreed by Parliament and by decision of the National Extraordinary Commission for Public Health apply also to the citizens from the region who come to the right bank. These cover the whole territory of the country, including the Transnistrian region.

A state of emergency was declared in the Transnistrian region in connection with the WHO’s decision to declare the novel coronavirus outbreak a pandemic. The state of emergency will last from March 17 until April.

The same day, the Moldovan constitutional authorities decreed a state of emergency for a period of 60 days.
