The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, through the agency of the Embassy of Moldova in Belgium, keeps in touch with the Belgian authorities so as to find out if there are Moldovans among the victims of the explosions that happened at the airport and Maelbeek metro station in Brussels this morning, March 22. The Ministry will provide expert consular assistance if necessary, IPN reports.

The Embassy of Moldova in Belgium made legal approaches to the local authorities, including the Brussels airport authorities, so as to obtain additional information about the circumstances of the incident and the nationality of those affected.

According to the presidential press service, President Nicolae Timofti firmly condemned the terror attacks at Zaventem airport and the subway in Brussels. “Such tragic events are designed to destabilize the European Union and to cause panic in the area. For this particular eason, the states of Europe and the whole world remain united and join forces in the fight against terrorism,” said the Head of State.

According to foreign media reports, at least 11 persons were killed and 25 were hurt in the explosion at the airport in Brussels.
