Anticorruption prosecutors made public details about the case of the former Prime Minister Vlad Filat, who is accused of passive corruption and influence peddling. When searching the Lib-Dem’s home, the police found secret documents belonging to a number of state institutions and papers showing that a number of persons, including politicians, were being followed. The prosecutors didn’t specify the institutions and gave no names, IPN reports.

Anticorruption prosecutor Adriana Betisor told a news conference that the criminal case against Vlad Filat was started based on the self-denouncing statements of the mayor of Orhei, businessman Ilan Shor. The proofs collected meanwhile substantiate the circumstances and facts described by Shor. Among the proofs are the documents found at the former Premier’s home, which prove statements made by Shor and confirm the connection with a number of companies involved in the bank frauds. Some of these documents contain the phrase ‘key persons’ and names that have connection with the investigated frauds.

Adriana Betisor noted that under the legislation, the persons who denounce acts of corruption are absolved from liability. Ilan Shor was absolved from punishment only in this case, not yet in the cases in which he is investigated as a suspect. Shor was today summoned for additional questioning over this case. The Customs Service head Tudor Balitksi, ex-Premier Iurie Leanca and other officials were also investigated, but more details cannot be provided.

As to the arrest, which, according to Filat’s lawyers, was made with violations, prosecutor Vitalie Galeru said he personally presented the immunity annulment decision to the politician in the office of the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group after receiving it. Afterward, Filat was arrested. The information that the movement of the ex-Premier was restricted in the period until the mentioned decision was issued is not true.

Parliament voted to deprive Vlad Filat of parliamentary immunity on October 15. Immediately after the sitting, the Liberal-Democratic heavyweight was arrested for 72 hours. On October 18, the warrant for his arrest was extended for 30 days.
