The young man who barricaded himself inside nursery school No. 46 in Chisinau two days ago fired at a police officer and threatened to kill himself and will be charged on three counts – murder attempt, illegal keeping of firearms and again murder attempt, based on a complaint filed by his former woman partner, IPN reports.
In a news conference on June 26, deputy head of the General Police Inspectorate Gheorghe Cavcaliuc said that in the evening of June 24, when he asked his former partner to come for discussions, the suspect planned the offense. On him, he had an illegally held gun, over 20 bullets and a suicide note that was found in his bag. A carabineer patrol going nearby intervened when the suspect attacked the young woman. The man got scared and ran away. He even fired at a policeman, but the gun didn’t discharge.
Gheorghe Cavcaliuc said the suspect barricaded himself in the nursery and yielded to the police after several hours of discussions with police officers and psychologists and even a judge of the Hancesti Court where the young man worked earlier. After he was arrested, the police established that he held the gun illegally. Moreover, the gun is similar to that used in the double murder in Durlesti. It is now being examined. Another coincidence is the fact that the young man rented an apartment in Buiucani district, which is near Durlesti, together with his partner.
Cavcaliuc refused to provide other details, saying more information will be made public as a result of investigations.
Minister of the Interior Oleg Balan said the suspect was earlier punished administratively for violating public order. Such a case happened in Moldova for the first time. In gratitude, a number of police officers, psychologists and the judge involved were awarded orders and diplomas.
