The driver of the minibus with diplomatic license number, in which boxes with anabolic steroids to the value of over 8 million lei were identified at the Palanca customs post on December 5, was charged, IPN reports.
The Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases took over the case and ordered to indict the driver for attempt to smuggle anabolic steroids and psychotropic substances and is to ask for an arrest warrant for 30 days. The origin of substances is being determined.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration said that according to internal documents, the minibus was on a service mission on the Moscow – Chisinau - Moscow route during December 2-5, based on a request made to the Ministry by Moldova’s Embassy in Russia, to allow this to convey current diplomatic mail to Chisinau. The institution launched the internal inquiry procedures.
Under the law, smuggling is punished with three to ten years in jail in the case of private individuals and with a fine of 300,000 to 550,000 lei and ban on performing particular activities or liquidation of the legal entity in the case of legal entities.
