To benefit from the monthly benefit of 1,000 lei up to the child’s age of two, the legal representative – one of the parents or the guardian – must file an application to the local social insurance house within 12 months of the child’s birthdate. In the case of socially insured persons who already receive monthly child benefit, an application does not need to be filed. The benefit will be set automatically by the National House of Social Insurance, IPN reports.

The Government on Wednesday approved amendments to the regulations concerning the payment of benefit intended for families with children. The children under two whose parents or custodians are socially insured will have the right to a benefit of 1,000 lei a month in addition to the child benefit paid up to the child’s age of three, in accordance with the chosen option. In the case of children whose parents or custodians are not insured, the child benefit will be raised from 740 lei to 1,000 lei.

The 1,000 lei benefit will be paid to each child who is on the register of the Public Services Agency, including in the case of twins or more children born at once, and if the child is put up for adoption or was placed under guardianship.

The monthly support allowance for twins is raised from 370 lei to 500 lei. The financial support for looking after twins is paid for each child, from birth up to the age of three, according to the same procedure.

Approximately 77 million lei was allocated from the state budget for implementing the measures this year. A sum of about 805 million lei will be needed for the purpose next year.

According to the estimates of the National House of Social Insurance, monthly child benefit paid up to the child’s age of two in 2023 will be provided to 65,133 persons, while monthly support allowance paid to twins up to the age of three – to 3,053 persons.
