The provisions on separatism that were recently adopted by Moldova’s Parliament will not affect the Transnistrian settlement process and the persons of good faith. They are designed to prevent and combat threats to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian stated in a meeting with U.S. Ambassador in Chisinau Kent D. Logsdon, IPN reports.

The Deputy Premier said that both the country reunification policies and the mechanisms agreed in the negotiations should lead to the peaceful and definitive settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, with the demilitarization of the region in parallel, restoration of the constitutional authorities’ control and conclusion of structural reforms all over the country’s territory.

Parliament on Thursday passed a bill by which the Penal Code is supplemented with a new offense component, namely actions taken to separate a part of the territory of the Republic of Moldova and the distribution of information that incites such actions.
