The deputy mayor of Bubuieci commune of Chisinau municipality was arrested on abuse of power charges in the case of dispossession of the mayor’s office of four plots. The caused damage was estimated at about 1 million lei, IPN reports.
According to the National Anticorruption Center, the deputy mayor, together with the secretary of the local council and an accomplice, aiming to sell four plots that belonged to the mayor’s office, identified persons in other communities whose names and surnames coincided with the identification data of real applicants for land. After coming into possession of the land, the beneficiaries made general powers of attorney in the name of the council’s secretary, who ultimately sold the plots to third persons.
The secretary and his accomplice were arrested in the same case on December 7.
If they are found guilty, the suspects will be fined up to 117,500 lei or will be jailed for two to six years and banned from holding particular posts or performing a particular activity for a period of five to ten years.
