Mihai Furtuna resumed his office as Chisinau Deputy Mayor after the Court of Appeals cancelled a repeat Municipal Council’s (CMC) decision regarding his dismissal. Mihai Furtuna told Info-Prim Neo that due to the fact that on December 14, 2006 the CMC decision on dismissal was quashed by the Court of Appeals he retook his duties as Deputy Mayor as from June 1. Deputy Mayor Furtuna was dismissed by CMC for the first time on January 20, 2006. On June 12, the same year, the Court of Appeals returned Furtuna to his original duties. The decision was appealed by Chisinau City Hall in the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ), but the appeal was rejected. The City Hall appealed again in CSJ, however the Court ruled on December 27 to keep the decision pronounced by the Court of Appeals in force. Almost two weeks before this decision, CMC has once again dismissed Furtuna, this decision being annulled by the Court of Appeals. When asked which responsibilities were returned, Furtuna said the new interim mayor, Petru Svet, did not describe his area of activity so far. Petru Svet was named interim Mayor General when Veaceslav Iordan suspended his main job activities. After a while, Svet was discharged from this office due to figuring on the lists of council candidates of the PCRM. As a consequence, the temporary mayorship was then taken by Nicolae Manastarli, interim head of the CMC Secretariat. When Vladimir Sarban returned to his duties, Manastarli returned to his original position, as Head of the Administrative Division of the Mayoralty. Sources within the City Hall said that interim mayor Veaceslav Iordan, while being released from his function, signed an ordinance that named Petru Svet as temporary mayor.
