The deputy mayor of Otaci town of Ocnita district was arrested on suspicion that he asked money in order to facilitate the issuing of an authorization for building up a retail unit. The arrest was made immediately after he took the money, IPN has learned from the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office.
A criminal case over passive corruption was started against the deputy mayor. He faces a fine of 60,000 to 100,000 lei and five to ten years’ imprisonment and may be also banned from holding particular posts or performing particular activities for a period of two to five years.
The investigation is conducted by the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office. They mayor was put under arrest for 72 hours.
