The deputy head of Buiucani district Vasile Mistreanu was arrested on suspicion of acts of corruption. He is to be escorted to the remand prison of the National Anticorruption Center.
Contacted by IPN, the Center’s press officer Angela Starinski said anticorruption officer carried out searches at the functionary’s home in the morning of April 6. The searches now continue at his office.
The municipal public authorities of Chisinau in a press release say they took cognizance of prosecution bodies’ acts. If the blame of the functionary is proven, this will have to bear responsibility.
Update: The National Anticorruption Center specified the deputy head is suspected of asking for money from a businessman for helping him solve a problem. According to the informer, the functionary said he has influence on specialists of the Buiucani district head’s office and can persuade them to authorize the setting up of a metallic fence for separating the area owned by the businessman from the public road. To issue the necessary documents, the district’s deputy head asked for 10,000 lei, but the authorization hasn’t been signed. This asked for another 10,000 lei. When the businessman refused to given him the money, the functionary threatened he will cause problems to him and ultimately ordered to remove the fence. The deputy head faces up to six years in jail.
