The Chisinau City Court found the deputy head of Buiucani district Vasile Mistreanu guilty of influence peddling and fined this 60,000 lei, banning him from holding public posts for a period of three years. The sentence was given on July 10, IPN reports.
According to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, the functionary asked 20,000 lei from a businessman for solving a problem related to the installation of a protection fence. The denouncer said the deputy district head told him he has influence over public servants of the Buiucani district head’s office and can persuade these to authorized the installation of a metallic fence for isolating the private property of the business entity from the public road.
After the businessman paid half of the asked sum and refused to pay more money, the functionary warned him he will cause him problems and ultimately instructed to demolish the metallic fence. The functionary does not accept blame. He was arrested last April.
The judgment passed by the ordinary court can be challenged in the Chisinau Appeals Court within 15 days.
