The deportee monument that will be placed in the capital’s Railway headquarters square will be ready for the bronze coating at the end of August, says the author of the sculpture Iurie Platon. Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca told the journalists that the bronze coating process may take up to half a year, after which, in next year’s July the monument will be installed in the square, reports Info-Prim Neo. Iurie Platon mentioned that the monument represents a column of people who start by looking regular and end up melting into train wheels and tracks. “The people are transformed into the product of Stalinist machinery, the zombing machine”, the artist said. The length of the monument is 12 meters; initial height is 2.8 meters and 60 cm at the end. Monument works started last September, the author being helped by 3 other colleagues from the Sculptor Union. “It took me 2 years to develop the sketch. I worked on it every day from 8 am till 7 pm. There were times when I worked during weekends. It is an important job, the workload is very heavy”, said the sculpture’s author. According to the sculptor, after finalizing the gypsum sketch the sculpture will be sent to Belarus where it will be coated in bronze. Dorin Chirtoaca, who came to oversee the work’s progress, said that 250,000 lei where needed for the commencement of the work, out of which 50,000 were donated by the mayor himself. “The erection of this monument is a matter of honor for me. Along with my colleagues and friends, we have borrowed 250,000 lei and asked Iurie Platon to start the project” the Mayor said. Total expenses for this monument add up to 10-15 million lei of budgetary funds. “Money-wise it is an expensive project, but if we take into account the goal of the work, then it is not that expensive”, the Mayor added. Soon the public tender for the manager of the allocated space will take place.
