Deportation victims to receive assistance

The victims of the deportations of 1941 will receive lump sums from the Chisinau City Hall. In the June 11 meeting of City Hall officials, the head of the Social-Humanitarian and Interethnic Relations Division Nina Stratulat said that 2,200 persons will be given by 500 lei. The money will be allocated from the municipal social support fund, Info-Prim Neo reports.
A march will be staged on June 13, when it is 71 years of the first wave of deportations. Flowers will be laid in the Great National Assembly Square. Another march will be mounted on July 6, when it is marked the second wave of deportations. It will end with a meeting at the future monument of deportation victims that will be erected near the Railway Terminal.
Under an order made by the mayor general, every district head’s office will decide by itself whether to offer social assistance and to organize meetings. Some of the district head’s offices will also give commemoration meals.
As many as 12,360 persons were deported from Bessarabia on the night of June 13, 1941. According to official statistics, 22,648 Bessarabians became victims of the Stalinist repression. But the victims of deportations say the figures are much higher.
