Denmark has opened an Embassy in Moldova. According to Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, the new diplomatic mission will enable Moldova to anchor even deeper in the family of European states. The statements were made at a press conference given in Chisinau together with Danish Minister of Foreign Affairs Lars Løkke Rasmussen, IPN reports.
“The past year we managed to dramatically and visibly strengthen the diplomatic presence of our European partners in the Republic of Moldova. And over the past year, embassies were opened here or announcements of embassy opening were made, obviously by Denmark, but also by Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain and Greece,” noted Nicu Popescu. According to the official, these new diplomatic missions, including Denmark’s embassy opened today, “will allow us to deepen Moldova’s anchoring in the family of European states, so that we can all work to bring Moldova into the European Union.”
Nicu Popescu said that Moldova benefits from support from Denmark, including assistance to build economic, financial, energy and security resilience. “I discussed several topics related to these areas today with Minister Rasmussen. We also have an excellent dialogue on the files and actions that strengthen our partnership with the North Atlantic Alliance within which Denmark is evidently a very active member,” said the Deputy Premier.
For his part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Denmark said that Moldova, being close to the war provoked by Russia in Ukraine, is in a rather difficult situation. Despite these challenging circumstances, Moldova managed to make remarkable progress towards the rapprochement with the European Union. “It is a path that requires a lot of work and, last but not least, commitments to our common values. But it is ultimately a journey with many benefits, and we encourage you to work as well,” noted the Danish official.
Referring to the opening of the Embassy in Chisinau, Lars Løkke Rasmussen said that this will provide an even better platform through which Denmark will assist Moldova on its European path and will also contribute to the intensification of bilateral relations.
In the Republic of Moldova there are 37 enterprises with Danish capital, and investments in the share capital of these companies amount to 66 million lei. Also, Moldova exports fresh and dried fruits, bakery products, sunflower seeds, wines, etc. to Denmark.
